This semester, students from preschool through high school collaborated on an art installation just outside the Murray Arts Center, facing Shelton Circle. Led by MPCS art teachers, the piece, titled “Fishers of Men,” is made up of a colorful collection of ceramic fish created by the students.

Lower school art teacher Mrs. Amy Moore shared, “It was rewarding to watch students glaze a fish carved by someone else, demonstrating cooperation and appreciation for one another’s work. In the end, the colorful display on the hill serves as a beautiful reminder of the diverse and vibrant world in which we live.”

In Matthew 4:19, Jesus addresses his first two disciples – Simon, called Peter, and Andrew, brothers and fishermen. Jesus says to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” In this mandate, Jesus is instructing them to leave everything behind that may hold them back. As our seniors prepare to move into the world, our prayer is that they will accept the call to become fishers of men, understanding that following is not a one-time event, but a lifestyle of obedience, trust, and closeness to Christ.

Mrs. Moore explained, "The sculpture is a wonderful representation of the biblical command of community and the power of working together to accomplish great things. I also enjoyed seeing students learn that life is not always about ourselves, but about the Kingdom as a whole.”

May this art be a continual reminder to all of us of Jesus’ calling on our lives.
