Dr. David Tilley Awarded Honorary Alumnus of the Year for 2025

Our 2025 Honorary Alumnus of the Year — Dr. David Tilley

In many ways, Dr. Tilley is synonymous with Mount Paran Christian School. He began his career as a middle school teacher with the Cobb County School District, while also serving as youth minister at Mount Paran Church of God.

In 1976, Dr. Tilley became a founding member of the first Board of Directors for Mount Paran Christian School. In 1984, he assumed the role of headmaster at MPCS, leading the school’s significant transition from its Buckhead location to the new campus in East Marietta. Under his leadership, Mount Paran established its high school and solidified its mission to prepare servant-leaders.

In 2004, Dr. Tilley returned to MPCS as headmaster, a position he held with dedication until his retirement in 2018. Under his leadership, MPCS experienced tremendous growth in enrollment, started a football program, and purchased the Murray Arts Center.

Board Chair, George Ethridge, had this to share “David Tilley is not only a fabulous Head of School and Administrator, but an even better friend and brother in Christ.  His life is a reflection of our Savior, and we are all the beneficiaries of his many talents and his kindness.  I am honored to call David Tilley both my friend and my mentor."

Dr. Tilley holds several degrees in political science, education, and leadership. He has served as the Vice President for Student Life at Lee University, the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Independent Schools Association, and remains active as a member of the Feed My Lambs Board of Directors. He also shares his knowledge as adjunct faculty at Kennesaw State University and Gordon College.

Dr. Tilley is a devoted husband to his wife Angie, proud father of three adult children, and a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren whom he adores. He’s also a huge Tennessee Vols fan! Dr. Tilley quoted how honored he is to be recognized as the Honorary Alumnus of the Year. Stating “I will count it among my most cherished awards from a place I truly love”.
