Mount Paran Christian School is proud to unveil a new limited-edition coffee table book to commemorate 50 years of our school. Released at the recent Golden Gala event, the book titled "Firmly Planted – A Heritage of Faith, A Legacy of Learning" is a 164-page volume which traces our beginnings of the first Church of God in Atlanta.

The tales and pictures featured in the book brings to life the grand history of the founding of the school, and its growth—from planting seeds, to taking root, to bearing fruit. For many in our MPCS family, the pages will rekindle cherished memories. For others, they reveal a remarkable story of God’s faithfulness long before the school even existed. Readers will relish in the humble beginnings and rich storytelling which defines the excellence that has continued with God's provision over the years. Every MPCS student, teacher, parent, alumni, grandparent, and alumni parent or grandparent will find the pages full of insight and memories.

Be sure to come by the Eagles Nest school store in July to purchase your commemorative book celebrating our heritage and our legacy. Families may also purchase online at the link below.

Kathleen McCook

About the Author

When Dr. Paul Walker hired Kathleen McCook in 1982 as Mount Paran Church of God’s publications editor, she could not have imagined that more than four decades later she would be planning the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mount Paran Christian School.

At that time, the school was still located at Mount Paran Central in Buckhead and was only in its sixth year. Through her work overseeing publications, marketing, and communications for the church, Mrs. McCook had the privilege of assisting periodically with materials for the school and researching the church’s history. In doing so, she came to appreciate the men and women whose faithful service laid the foundation for the church. That rich history is inseparable from the ongoing story of Mount Paran Christian School.

When the decision was made to publish a book commemorating the school’s 50th anniversary, Mrs. McCook knew the story had to reach beyond those five decades of academics. She desired to tell the whole story—beginning in 1917—to honor the individuals and families whose faith and legacy continue to shape the school today. Her storytelling and photos from the archives provide insightful memories and document all that MPCS has meant to our community from the very beginning.

In addition, as part of the 50th-year celebration, MPCS has published a children's book about our history and life as an MPCS student told by our one and only Shelton the Eagle mascot.
