Governor's Honors Recipients 2023

Congratulations to MPCS junior, C. Finch, who was named as a finalist and invited to participate in the 2023 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) as a visual arts major. Junior C. Parada was named as an alternate and may also have the opportunity to participate this summer.

GHP annually hosts a four-week-long college immersive program for hundreds of Georgia's best and brightest academicians and artists. The program will be held at Georgia Southern University. As a finalist, Claire represents the top quartile of the top percentile of her eligible student peer group in the state. To be accepted as a GHP participant is significant, carrying great weight on college resumes. 

By being named as 2022 GHP finalists, students have the opportunity to live on campus for four weeks with 690 other high-achieving students from across the state to study in their subject area, interact with students in their peer group, and get a preview of what college life is like. Claire will study in her art major area six days per week, four hours per day, and will declare a minor area of study in addition to art. Participation is free for all students, completely funded by the Georgia Legislature.

In addition to C. Finch being named a finalist, our school set several new school benchmarks of achievement. This year, MPCS sent it's largest contingency of nominee in school history with the following students:

The Georgia Governor's Honors Program has a rich and meaningful history: It was established in 1964, is the longest-running and largest program of its kind in the nation, and is the only program in the country that is completely funded by the state legislature at no cost to participants. Past Georgia GHP participants are Academy Award winner Holly Hunter (The Piano), TV star Wayne Knight (Newman on Seinfeld), politicians, and many successful physicians, entrepreneurs, and the like.
