Brad Welty Distinguished Athletic Alumnus of the Year

We are proud to present the Mount Paran Christian School Distinguished Athletic Alumnus
of the Year Award to Brad Welty, Class of 1990. 

Brad came to Mount Paran in 1986 and was part of the first freshmen class at the Allgood Road
campus. Through his time as a student, he was a member of the school’s first varsity basketball
and varsity tennis teams, helping to lay the foundation for MPC Athletics.

In 1990, Brad was a part of the first ever graduating class of seniors to have completed all four
years of high school. He went on to attend Lee University where he graduated with a degree in health and physical education and a minor in Bible. After graduating, Brad began his career in education and athletics. Brad’s impact at MPCS continued after graduation as he returned to coach, serve as Assistant Athletic Director, and help establish several middle school athletic programs that still thrive
today.

For over three decades, he has been a dedicated coach and athletic leader, with 28 years in
basketball, 11 years in soccer, varsity tennis experience, and 20 years as an Assistant Athletic
Director. He has coached more than 45 basketball teams, guided championship programs, and
received honors such as GISA Region Coach of the Year. He was also responsible for starting
22 new middle school programs and adding 27 sports teams at 3 different schools. Brad currently works as a Middle School Bible Teacher at Fellowship Christian School and coaches 7th Grade Boys Basketball. Brad shares, "I have used athletics as a platform to honor God, love others, and invest in students’ faith and character”.

Brad is married to Karen Welty and they have two children — a daughter Caitlin and a son Jacob.
Brad's favorite bible verse is Colossians 3:17 which reads “And whatever you do, whether in
word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Brad had this to say about receiving this award “This award means so much to me! I've simply
tried to serve where I felt God called me and do the work faithfully. While I’ve never focused on
recognition, it’s incredibly meaningful to have those years of hard work acknowledged by a
school that has meant so much to me.”
