Band Students Receive All-State and UGA Honors

Congratulations to middle school band student Ava DeVaux for an outstanding fall semester of accomplishments on the flute. First, the University of Georgia accepted her as a participant in their MidFest honor band festival, where she achieved the rank of second chair flute in the top honor band for this statewide event. Next, she passed the first round of GMEA All-State Band auditions with a high score that qualifies her for the upcoming second round. Finally, she earned fifth chair in the all-county GMEA District Honor Band, meaning that she is ranked among the top five best middle school flute players in Cobb CountyThis is an extremely competitive ensemble, with hundreds of flautists from throughout Cobb County competing for one of the highly coveted chair positions. To gain admittance, she had to pass a rigorous audition which included tests of scale memorization/facility, sight-reading, and solo etude performance. Best wishes to Ava as she prepares for the second round of All-State!

Congratulations also goes to high school band students Fullerton Dale and Hailey Thornton for their acceptance into the University of Georgia’s Annual High School Honor Band Festival! These students have been invited to participate in a three-day conference at UGA consisting of large ensemble rehearsals, master classes, guest performances, and a culminating concert. We are excited that our outstanding band students have made such high musical achievements to represent MPCS at this competitive statewide event!
