American Sign Language Students Attend Deaf Expo

American Sign Language (ASL) students recently welcomed a Deaf guest visitor whom they had the opportunity to practice their developing language skills while learning directly from a member of the Deaf community. Following this, 22 ASL 1 students and their teacher, Mrs. Kehoe, elected to attend an optional field trip to the DeafNation Expo in Atlanta, which immersed them in authentic language and cultural experiences. These students were able to engage in independent conversations with the Deaf community members. Some of these members included a local Deaf pastor, Deaf missionaries, and Deaf small-business owners. Many students shared how empowering it felt to hold these conversations in ASL. What an authentic and encouraging capstone experience for our first-year ASL students!
