Important Family Serve Day Note for 2020

With the uncertainty of the coming month, the format for Family Serve Day is likely to change. Much planning and many resources are required to launch the magnitude of a typical MPCS day of service. This will not be possible in our traditional format, given campus and area closings. However, now, more than ever, our community, churches, food banks, and partner ministries are in a great deal of need. We are in contact with ministry leadership to assess their needs and to determine another way to serve them. Our goal will be to replace this day with opportunities for families to serve, most likely via the Saturday Serve format. We will be adding a more extensive ministry site location list to the sign-up and will announce the Saturday date when we know more. Be on the lookout for information once the quarantine is lifted. We know God is in control and pray he can use the entire MPCS family in meaningful ways to show His love to those in need when the time comes.

MPCS Family Serve Day — Friday, April 24, 2020

We are excited to announce the locations and plans for the 2020 Family Serve Day. On April 24, our MPCS family will show God's love to our community in action and in truth by serving at multiple locations in our area. Preschool through second-grade students and parents will serve in various ways on campus. Our third- through twelfth-grade students and their parents will have the opportunity to choose one of the great ministry sites we partner with and serve them. Families will be able to sign up for a specific site location when registration launches. Please save the date of April 24, so we can all serve together!

REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 25

Registration for sites will open promptly at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, and will close at exactly 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. While we still have several weeks before registration opens, please browse through the different ministry locations and begin to prayerfully consider the best fit for you and your family.

All parents are welcome to attend the Family Serve Day Chapel service held Wednesday, April 22, at 9:00 a.m. in the Hughes Gymnasium.

*Please note: Preschool and grades K-2 will have an EARLY RELEASE at 12:30 p.m. that Friday. Please make arrangements for pickup and consider this when choosing either morning or afternoon time slots if serving with your older children.

2020 MINISTRY SITE LOCATIONS

The following is a current list of the 2020 ministry site locations where families may serve. Read through the details of the needs for each site, and learn more on the ministry websites. Carefully pray about where your family would like to serve this year. Parents are responsible for transportation. Students whose parents cannot attend will serve with staff at Camp Gideon. Information about serving with preschool through second-grade classes will be sent by teachers. Remember, registration opens at 7:00 p.m. on March 25. Feel free to coordinate with friends to serve at a particular site by signing up early.

Family Serve Day FAQs

What is Family Serve Day?

Family Serve Day is a designated day where our students, parents, teachers, and staff join together in teams to serve others throughout our community. As we unite with our families to develop true servant leaders, our prayer is that service becomes a lifestyle for our families at MPCS. We believe if families serve together, they are able to grow closer to God together. Through this initial day of serving, perhaps our families will continue their service together throughout the year at one or more of these ministries.

How will I know which site to select?

Listed on this page are all of the locations to which we will be sending teams to serve. When you click on a location or ministry, you will find a link to the ministry's website where you can read more about the ministry and their vision. Also included in the dropdown are the team leaders, hours of service, and ways in which that team will serve. If this looks like the team on which you would like to participate, simply click on the registration button, and you will be linked a sign-up page. If the team still has openings, you will be guided through the registration process.

Yes, a parent or guardian can sign a waiver for their child when they register online to serve with another family. What if I can't serve with my child(ren)?

Parents must register their own child. Students serving without a parent participating will register for CAMP GIDEON - a designated site for which transportation will be provided. These students will follow the regular arrival and dismissal schedule and will be picked up in regular carpool.

Should you wish to have your child(ren) participate with another family, you must still register your child(ren) and during registration indicate who will be responsible for transporting the child to and from the site and for the student’s safety at the site. Also for liability reasons, the families cannot meet at the school for pickup or drop off. Please plan to meet off campus when coordinating carpooling.

Students PreK through second grade will be serving on campus for Family Serve Day and will be dropped off at the normal school start time at MPCS. Families who also have children in grades 3-12 will then go on to their selected work site with their older student.
