Lady Eagles Softball Brings Home State Title

 

A very special congratulations to our State Champion Lady Eagles varsity softball team! The Lady Eagles swept the Final Four winner’s bracket and brought home the Championship title on Saturday night. 

In Game 1, MPC defeated Prince Avenue, 6-4. Malayna Tamborra a pitched full game, with nine strikeouts. Marian Collins led the offense with three hits. Charlotte Smith had multiple hits, while Alaina Gatch, Sara Hambrick, and Malayna Tamborra each contributed one hit, with Sara Hambrick driving in two RBIs.

In Game 2, MPC defeated defending champs Mount De Sales, 7-3. The Eagles were down 0-2 when Mallory Westbrook hit a Grand Slam Homerun. Malayna Tamborra pitched for the win, striking out 10. The offense had two hits each from Marian Collins, Malayna Tamborra, and Sara Hambrick and one hit each from Havalynn Abernathy, Avery Hudson, and Alaina Gatch.

In the Championship Game 3, MPC defeated Strong Rock Christian, 7-1. Once again, Malayna Tamborra pitched the full game for the win, striking out 10 and only allowing two hits in seven innings. Malayna's final strikeout number was 200 for the season. Sara Hambrick had two hits and two RBIs. Marian Collins and Malayna Tamborra also had two hits, and there was one hit each from Alaina Gatch, Avery Hudson, and Mallory Westbrook. Our only senior, Havalynn Abernathy, contributed a solo homerun.

Defensively, every member of the team contributed, with big plays made in the outfield by Havalynn Abernathy, Mallory Westbrook, and Avery Hudson. Marian Collins and Charlotte Smith worked as a team to control the middle infield, with Alaina Gatch and Sara Hambrick defended the corners. Kaylee Fuller and Mallory Westbrook worked well behind the plate.

Throughout the season, every player contributed, including Caitlin Ealey, Ally Holland, Mary Ella Carroll, Samantha Klewein, and Brooke Walden. Overall, the Lady Eagles scored 53 runs to their opponents' 23 runs in post-season play. MPC finished the season 26-4. Congratulations to our Area 3 and A-Private State Champions! Great job on a record-setting season, Lady Eagles. We are so proud of you!
