The Diviners is a story of a fragile young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in Southern Indiana in the early 1930s. When the boy was a child, he nearly drowned in an accident that also claimed the life of his mother. The traumatic event left him with severe brain damage and a deep fear of water. The play tells the story of the boy, his town, and the preacher, all of whom are searching for meaning in their small-town lives. This play is appropriate for middle and high school students.
