Steve Kyle Promoted to Assistant Head of School for Christian Life

Dear MPCS Family,

Over the course of the past two school years, the board of trustees, the executive council, faculty members, parents, grandparents, and numerous others have worked to complete a new strategic plan to help as we consider and plan for the future of our great school. The most important component of the strategic plan and all we do at MPCS is to continually keep the mission of the institution as our number one priority. As such, Christian Life and how we "do" community together play an integral roles in both the present and the future of our institution.

To that end, we have focused several strategic initiatives on the manner in which we "do" distinctly Christian education. Knowing that our foundation is Jesus Christ, we have determined to create a new position at MPCS - that of Assistant Head of School for Christian Life. We want to ensure that all we do is done for the glory and honor of our savior, Jesus Christ.

Many of you already know our Director of Christian Life, Mr. Steven Kyle. He has been a member of the MPCS family for four years, and I am excited that he has agreed to take on this new and important role of Assistant Head of School for Christian Life. He will work, along with every member of the school faculty and staff and with our families, to ensure that Christ is preeminent in all we do and that we not stray from this foundational element of our mission.

Having been an administrator and Christian school head in Savannah and Charleston prior to coming to MPCS, Mr. Kyle has years of executive leadership experience and has committed his life and career to Christian education. Please join me in welcoming him to this new role. I know he will do an amazing job.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Dr. Timothy Wiens
Head of School

Hello MPCS Family,

Dr. Wiens recently announced my acceptance of the new position of Assistant Head of School for Christian Life. I am thankful and privileged to serve in this way! Now, you may have some questions about what this position entails.

First, I think it important to mention that by creating this position,  Dr. Wiens and the board of trustees are sending a strong message and setting a great example to our community and Christian schools everywhere. Christ is preeminent, and we will endlessly work to see that it stays that way.

Second, MPCS is a very good – dare I say great – Christian school. But, our “greatness” is not the standard. His Son is. We must be consistently looking at every single facet of what we do with biblical intentionality to see that our mission stays front and center.

Third, every single person – from part-time workers to community coaches to full-time faculty and staff – are in the worldview-shaping business. Every decision we make, lesson we teach, practice we hold, conversation we have, and interaction that takes place is shaping the way our students "do" and will see the world. I believe the most important distinguishing mark of a Christian school should be an education that immerses students in a biblical worldview, not just integrates it. This involves looking at everything, from what hangs on the walls to who walks in our halls.

Fourth, although as Director of Christian Life I already played a role in some of this, the scope was limited. Chapels, retreats, Bible studies, service opportunities, and spiritual emphasis days all play an important role in shaping strong biblical worldviews and will continue to do so. They are only a part of a much larger picture. Every MPCS department, coach, team, performance, classroom, practice, rehearsal, program, lesson, teacher, and parent often plays a larger role in this development. This new position will lead the charge in these essential areas and more.

Finally, this is not a role that will create a list of checkboxes and meetings that lead to confusion or frustration. It is also not something that will be an overnight process with a clear end. It is more an opportunity for me to prayerfully guide our community intentionally on a journey that will continue to keep Christ at the CENTER of ALL we do. If we are going to continue to remain true to the vision and mission of being distinctly Christian, we must evaluate if and how we’re creating and sustaining learning environments, not just in the classroom, that are saturated with a strong biblical worldview. And, all along this journey, my prayer and plan will be that we, as a community, grow closer together as we grow closer to Him.

Remember, you are loved and prayed for!
